Angels: Sons of God

What do you believe regarding who "the sons of God" in Genesis 6 are?

Genesis 6:1-5
And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

In my study of this passage, as well as, many other scriptures over the years, I see that "the sons of God" in Genesis are angels, particularly Satan's fallen angels. Here's why.

The context
The chapter starts off by letting us know that men, i.e., human beings like you and I, were beginning to multiply (or increase suddenly) back early in creation. And these human men were fathering daughters, or human girls.

Suddenly, there is another group of people introduced to us called "the sons of God," and these sons of God, saw the daughters of men, and thought they were beautiful and made them their wives.

Now if these sons of God were human, it would be quite unusual to say that they saw the daughters of men. Even more to the point, the text actually distinguishes the "sons of God" from "men."

When these sons of God conceived children with these daughters of men, the resultant offspring were called "giants," an obvious reference to some type of being that was more than the size of a normal, average man.

Before the Flood, both God himself, and Satan, as well as all the angels, both fallen and elect, personally intermingled in the affairs of mankind in that day. God's presence was still down here on earth, and so were the angels.

Psalm 68:17
The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of angels: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the holy place

Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Here we see that Satan spoke directly to Eve.

Genesis 3:5
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

She knew what these gods (the angels) were and what they looked like, and what they could do because they lived around her.

Genesis 3:24
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

God was still here on earth, and mankind met him right where his cherubim were.

Genesis 4:3
And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

God was right here on earth.

Genesis 4:6a, 9a, 14
And the LORD said unto Cain…

And the LORD said unto Cain…

Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.

Cain saw God face to face!

God did not leave the earth until after he shut Noah into the ark...but before that, he dwelt alongside mankind! And where God is, so are the angels.

Genesis 6:3; 7:16
And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.

There are other times that the angels are called "the sons of God"...

Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Lastly, I believe that these sons of God back in Genesis 6 were angels because when the bible wants you to know that it is talking about human beings, it uses the term "sons (or daughters) of men."

Psalm 33:13
The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.

Proverbs 8:4
Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man

Ecclesiastes 8:11
Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

By the way, once the rapture takes place, and God begins his prophetic program in the earth with Israel, angels will again be made manifest visually to mankind.

Hebrews 13:2
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
