Wait, are you saying that in Acts 2, the Spirit came on them and not in them? Were they not all filled with the Holy Spirit? Didn't Paul also teach concerning of Kingdom of God?
Yes, I am saying that in Acts 2 the Spirit of God came upon them, not in them! And just because the verse says that they were "filled" with the Spirit, it does not mean that the Spirit of God came to live in them like he does today, for the following reasons.
Our Lord, himself, told his apostles that the Holy Ghost would come upon them, not in them!
Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the
Notice here that our Lord did not say in you, but upon you. So right there, out of Jesus' own mouth, is proof!
One needs to study the bible to understand what being "filled" with the Spirit means! It has nothing to do with the Holy Ghost living inside a person—that is man's own interpretation. The bible interpretation of being filled with the Spirit has to do with words that are spoken by the person.
Right there in Acts, the Lord tells them that once the Spirit comes upon them, they will be witnesses!
Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the
What do witnesses do? They testify to something! How does one testify? With the words of their mouths! What are these men testifying to? The Lord's identity as Israel’s Messiah and His death, burial and resurrection!
So this ‘being filled with the Spirit’ has to do with the Holy Spirit coming upon them, as well as, the words that they speak about him, and nothing to do with the Spirit coming in them!
Man needs to study the scriptures more closely, because even the text from Acts 2 tells us the interpretation.
Acts 2:3
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Right there in the verse it says the same exact thing that the Lord said, that the Spirit came upon them, and not in them!
Acts 2:4
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues [other languages], as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Here in the next verse it says that the Spirit gave them words to speak, and that’s all!
Those Jewish saints knew this from their Old Testament scriptures—from even David!
2 Samuel 23:2
The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
So all the Spirit of God did with believers–before our Apostle Paul was saved and the current Church, the Body of Christ began—was come upon those Jews to anoint them for service to God. And, he could also leave them, as David feared after committing adultery and murder!
Psalm 51:11
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
1 Samuel 16:14
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.
So to be filled with the Spirit has nothing to do with the Spirit of God indwelling a person, but has to do with the words of God that that person speaks.
Ephesians 5:18-19
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Hopefully this helps!
