Destination wormhood

If the sinner becomes a worm what part of him does that?

His soul.

The bible makes it clear that sinful man is a "worm" in the eyes of God. But, why a worm? Because a worm is an unclean creepy crawler who muddles around in the dirt, which is symbolic of sinful man.

Job 25:4-6
How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?  Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?

The term "worm" in the bible is referring to man's heart/inner man.

1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

God saw the entire nation of Israel (except a righteous few) as worms.

Isaiah 41:14
Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.

The Lord Jesus Christ called the unbelievers of Israel the same during His earthly ministry to them...

Mark 9:43-48
And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. nd if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

Each human is made up of three parts: a spirit, soul, and body [1 Thessalonians 5:23](At death, the body returns to dust and the spirit returns to God [Ecclesiastes 12:7]; and, the part of the lost sinner that goes to hell is their soul [Luke 16:23-24].) That lost person's soul is in hell until the Great White Throne Judgment (1,000 years after our Lord sets up His earthly kingdom). It is at this judgment where the Lord (and us) will sit and judge all the lost of all the ages according to their works and then they go into the Lake of Fire to be punished and tormented for all eternity.

Revelation 20:11-15
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

It is during the time of this eternal torment in the Lake of Fire that the soul of the lost will be transformed fully into the "worm" that he truly is! And throughout eternity, mankind, as they go before the Lord in Jerusalem to worship, will see all the unbelievers be tormented as worms. (This is exactly what the Lord was referring to in Mark chapter 9).

Isaiah 66:23-24
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

Now, if all mankind are born unclean, yet some of us will escape that torment of the Lake of Fire, how will that be possible?  Well...

The Lord, Himself, became a "worm" for us on the Cross! Look at this prophetic Messianic Psalm...

Psalm 22:1-6
My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

The wonderful truth is that our Lord suffered the second death in His soul for us believers on the Cross, so that we won't have to...Amen!

Isaiah 53:10-12
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.  Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Hopefully this helps!
