Righteousness of God versus Self-Righteousness

Romans 10:3
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Religious people are ignorant of God’s righteousness.

Romans 3:21
But now the righteousness of God without the law [“without religion” aka, a performance-based acceptance system] is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

It is the righteousness of God by the faith of Jesus Christ:  his perfect faith to go to the cross.

Philippians 3:9
And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Now (in the dispensation of his grace) God does not require the law performance for righteousness; he requires faith in his grace at Calvary.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:   Not of works, lest any man should boast.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Religious people today are ignorant of the grace message, so to please God they are going about trying to establish their own righteousness.  That is called self-righteousness.  That is what you encounter when you tell someone about God’s grace message, and they say, “No, no, no.  There is something that I must do.  I have to...

…Repent
…Be baptized
…Confess my sins
…Pray a prayer
…Join a church...”

No, they learned that from Acts 2:38.

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Some religious person (whether a preacher, teacher, evangelist, or family member) told them that.  That is not what God’s spokesman, Paul, for us today tells you.

Romans 3:22
Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

1 Corinthians 1:21
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Galatians 3:22
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

1 Timothy 1:16
Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.

But they are going about attempting to establish their own righteousness.  It is a submission issue; it is a heart issue.  They have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Romans 10:4
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

So now since the Lord Jesus Christ showed up, lived a perfect life under that righteous law and died for sins – he is the issue.
