Angel activity

You made an old testament reference in one of your teachings earlier in the book of Acts that I could not find.  It referred to angles releasing the righteous from prison/captivity?  Does that ring a bell?  Do you have the OT references?

I don't recall just exactly what I said about it, but as I think back to early Acts when the bible mentions angels, I come up with:

Acts 5:17-20
Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life.

There are a few verses that Israel should have known in relationship to this as they read the account of the angel of the Lord opening the prison doors for their apostles:

First, that is what God promised the nation when Messiah showed up:

Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Psalm 146:5-7
Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever: Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners:

God uses his angels to help him minister to those believing Jews.

Hebrews 1:13-14
But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

And finally, when that angel of God opened that prison to free those apostles, it was exactly what Psalms foretold:

Psalm 34:7
The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.

So, just putting all those verses together, it's no marvel that God sent his angel to open the prison doors for them.

Hopefully this helps!
