1 Timothy 6:3
If any man teach
otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord
Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
Notice here that
Paul is telling us that the words he preaches and teaches are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ. You see, when we [who are mid-Acts,
Pauline doctrine, bible believers that rightly divide the word of truth] say we
listen to Paul the apostle, we are actually saying Paul is his apostle (i.e.,
sent one) but we are listening to the Lord Jesus Christ and to the doctrine
(i.e., compartmentalized teaching) which is in according to godliness.
Godliness is
God-likeness. When God created Adam, he said
let us make man in our image and after our likeness. The image is the outward form. When the Lord Jesus Christ formed Adam from
the dust of the ground, the Lord had a body that consisted of a head, a torso,
arms, and legs, etc. Adam and Eve saw
him and talked with him in the garden in the cool of the day. Angels are spirits, but when they manifest
themselves, they look like men.
Daniel 9:21
Yea, whiles I was
speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision
at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the
evening oblation.
Psalm 104:4
Who maketh his
angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
So that, is the
‘image’ of God. But God didn’t just
create man in his outward image. He
made him in his ‘likeness.’ When you see
that word godliness, it is ‘God likeness.’
What that means is this: you think
like God thinks; you act like God
would act in that situation; and, you labour
with him. The issue of godliness is what
you put in your, spirit—your inner man.
It is Paul’s doctrine [words which the Lord gave to Paul to take to the
gentiles] that we are to store in our inner man.
1 Timothy 6:3
If any man teach
otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus
Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is
proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words,
whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of
men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain
is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
Paul’s doctrine
leads to godliness, it is in accordance and in line with ‘God likeness’; but a
man that teaches otherwise is proud,
knowing nothing! Do you know what ‘destitute means? It’s a man that has nothing, like a bum on
the street, and in this case, a man, proud, knowing nothing, destitute of the truth. If
the church, the body of Christ, a local assembly, is to be the pillar and ground of the truth (1 Timothy
3:15) and they let someone in their pulpit that is destitute of the truth [as
given to Paul], they are not fulfilling their calling, but are supposing that gain [health, wealth,
prosperity] is godliness…from such [ungodliness] withdraw thyself.
…from
such withdraw theyself.
