How do I answer a woman that says We are not under the penalty of the law, just the law itself, it is our guide?
To believe that we are not under the "penalty" of the Law of Moses, but that we are still under the "Law itself" is nonsense!!!
How can we still be under the Law itself, but not under the penalty? That is not taught in the bible, and she is making that up in her own mind!
If we were under the Law, we would be under the curse of it! Paul's book of Galatians was written to us gentiles for us in the present dispensation of Grace! (The Law of Moses was to and for Israel!)
Galatians 3:10
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
James 2:10
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
There is no one that keeps it perfectly!
Paul says that anyone who is a believer, yet puts themselves under the Law, is under the curse because they have to keep it continually!
The Law is legalism; it's a performance-based acceptance system! It's law!
Her thinking is not according to what the Holy Ghost teaches. The word says she is guilty before God!
Romans 3:19
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
She needs to listen to Paul, her God-given apostle!!
By placing herself under the Law, she frustrates God's grace.
Galatians 2:21
I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
We are accepted in the beloved Son of God by grace...
Ephesians 1:6
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
I cannot emphasis it enough: We are NOT UNDER LAW...BUT UNDER GRACE!
Romans 6:14
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
When you go back under the Law, sin has dominion over you!
Look what Paul says. We are free...all things are lawful!!!
1 Corinthians 6:12
All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
1 Corinthians 10:23
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not
We are to stay free from the Law...lest we fall from God's Grace:
Galatians 5:1-4
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage [the Law]. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
We have Christ’s righteousness and Paul says that the Law is not made for the righteous!
2 Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
1 Timothy 1:7
Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
Hopefully this
helps...Maranatha!
