Why do so many nonChristians seem to be happy?
Here is how God's Word answers your question.
Your question about why it sometimes seems like some lost men or non-Christians seem to be happy is a very common one. In fact, godly men from the bible had the same exact question that you have. Jeremiah asked that of God...
Jeremiah 12:1
Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?
Even the oldest book of the bible testifies to it also...
Job 12:6
The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.
And your feeling is the same as that of the Psalmist...
Psalm 73:3; 94:3-4
For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?
So what is this all about? Well, in the bible, God is very longsuffering and is very kind both to the evil and the good.
Matthew 5:45
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Luke 6:35
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
But don't fret, because in the bible God also says that the lost man (non Christians) seem to be happy, but what they are really doing is pretending, that is, living life now as if they will not have to answer to God for their evil deeds in the afterlife, but really knowing deep inside themselves that they actually will.
Look at what our Apostle Paul says about those evil men who seem to be happy in their sins, but who are willfully ignorant of God's judgment...
Romans 1:32
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
So although it looks like these arrogant sinners are happy in their sins, we believe what God says, that one day they will have to give an account to Him for their evil deeds.
We do know that there is pleasure in sin for a season...
Hebrews 11:25
Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;
…but also that the way of the transgressor is hard...
Proverbs 13:15
Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.
We know that God is not mocked and whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap, whether good or evil...
Galatians 6:6-7
Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
So, we know the end of the matter…
Psalm 37:1-3
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
...and as the scripture also testifieth...
Psalm 92:7
When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever:
Proverbs 1:32b
...the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
…the haughtiness of the wicked will come back to haunt them one day, for God will make them pay if they do not trust Christ for their sins!
Hopefully this
helps!
