Glorious Law

How can God call something that brings death to mankind (the Law) “glorious?”

In 2 Corinthians 3, when Paul say that the law was "glorious" he is not saying it in the context that it is good for mankind! On the contrary!  As far as it relates to mankind, it is death!!!

2 Corinthians 3:7-11
But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. or even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

Why was it glorious then? He is just making clear that as God's Word—His revelation of His perfect standard of righteousness—that it reflects His perfect glory!

Romans 7:12-14
Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.  Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

How can a good, glorious thing bring death? The sinfulness of man!

2 Corinthians 3:8-11
How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.

When God gave his law to Israel it was not so that they would glory in it, He gave it to them to condemn them and to drive them to His Mercy, that being Messiah King!!!

Galatians 3:21-25
Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believeBut before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Hopefully this helps!
